Overview: In order to serve the needs of all students, I will be visiting classrooms throughout the school year to discuss social/emotional issues with the students as needed in their classrooms. For example, if a grade level is having issues with respect, then I may support the teachers in their dealings with the issue through a classroom lesson/experience/discussion based on that topic. I will also be visiting classrooms on a semi-regular basis for psychoeducation on issues such as self-esteem, emotions, conflict resolution and decision-making throughout the school year.

School-wide
safety programs: These programs focus on assertiveness training and abuse prevention. I have implemented them in the past and been impressed with the knowledge the program imparts for the students. I encourage you to learn more through the links below and I will also be sending notice home when we begin these programs so that families may participate in an ongoing discussion with their children and practice the skills learned at school.

Bullying prevention
It is our hope that through psycho-education, increased reporting and individual and group interventions, that SBA will be able to prevent bullying on its campus. Please read the bullying policy in the handbook and discuss it with your child. We will also be having a review of bullying prevention in grades 5-8 during the first few months of the school year. Students will learn the definition of bullying, assertiveness strategies and ways to report situations that occur at school and beyond.
